Welcome, Hunters Ridge is a single entry community, surrounded
by an old English style stone wall, made up of custom
quality homes built by Mock Homes. Ground breaking
for the first of 96 homes took place in 1992, and all
were completed and occupied by 1996. Happily, the plan
of the neighborhood, on the side of a hill overlooking
the city, resulted in virtually all of the homes having
excellent views of the Bosque, city lights and the
Sandia Mountains.
The neighborhood has matured over the past nine years
into one of the most desirable on the west side,
possibly because of the security provided by the
single entry, the beauty, and obvious quality of the
homes, the proximity to all
parts of the city, including
shopping, parks, tennis courts, a swimming pool, an
equestrian center, a very active YMCA, hiking/biking
trails, a fine library, the Petroglyph Monument, golf
courses, the Rio Grande and the Cottonwood Mall complex.
And the fact that neighbors are neighbors in
the old fashioned sense of the word.
In addition to the single entry, the security of the
neighborhood is enhanced because most streets have
Neighborhood Watch and block captains, and there is
a good mix of retired people who are home most of
the time, and who "keep and eye on things."
The fact that the neighborhood is close knit and
has matured as it has didn't happen by accident.
People got involved in their neighborhood from
the very beginning, resulting in the above
mentioned Neighborhood Watch program, an informal
neighborhood association and
architectural control committee, the
design and planting of the gardens
at the entry and at the Santolina corner,
formation of a group to maintain the gardens
(headed by
Diane & Bill Reuler, who
have given generously of their time through
the years to make sure that the gardens are
maintained and improved), the introduction of a
newsletter,
phone directory (Access Restricted), and the planning
and development of a web site (special thanks to
Nick Niehoff, webmaster, who spent countless
hours designing the site and putting it
on the internet.)
