THOUGHTS OF FOOD....

Eat Your Heart Out.. .by Doris Berg

Ichiban Japanese Restaurant
10701 Coors Rd NW
Albuquerque, NM 87114 (505) 899-0095

It's about time that the West side had a good Japanese restaurant.. .and Ichiban is it!!! Although it is not in an obvious location and you might have to hunt to find it, it is worth the effort. It is tucked away at the end of the small shopping center that holds the post office, CiCi's pizza, and the new dollar store. They serve both lunch and dinner and the lunch is a bargain since it is the same price as the dinner menu and just about the same food.

If you are a sushi fan, there is a sushi bar that makes all sorts of exotic items including the popular California roll which is my favorite. Don't order a whole lot of sushi if you plan on a main meal though. It is too much!!! Their entrees are varied and include vegetable and/or shrimp tempura and teriyaki chicken. The entrees come with wonderful sticky rice, a small salad with oriental dressing, miso soup and one California sushi roll. Although we have not eaten there in the evening, the lunch and dinners are pretty much the same and very ample.

The meal is served on lovely lacquered trays and garnished with fresh fruit and is a pretty picture to behold. The restaurant is fairly large and seems to be quiet with only a little background music.. .both jazz and Japanese. If you are in a hurry the food comes out quickly, but they do not rush you to leave if you want to linger over your glass of wine and continue a conversation. Both beer and wine, are served but there is not full bar. Do try this nice eatery.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as we did.
